Big Endeavors Part 1 - A Retrospective

In this, the first of Endeavoring's 2-part Spotlight Feature looking at the past and future of Endeavor, we are taking a look back on the epic year that was 2010, which saw monumental changes within the company, as well as a period of unparalleled growth. During the year, the company experienced 35% in top line growth, a 44% increase in TAC staff, and a 20% increase in earnings. While there were some understandable hiccups associated with the learning curves of the new hires and system changes, operations normalized towards the end of the year. In anticipation of the 2011 ramp in volume, Endeavor has accelerated hiring decisions which will immediately increase Atlanta-based staff by an additional 15%. Endeavor's growth, both financially and in overall headcount, allows customers and employees to enjoy a substantial reinvestment in the company's long-term success.

2010 began with a major piece of news - the completion of Endeavor's recapitalization with Trivest Partners, a leading private equity firm whose Trivest Fund IV provided equity for the transaction, along with two of Endeavor's original investors. A capital facility committed to increased investment allowed Endeavor to continue its aggressive rate of profitable growth and enhance services provided to customers through increased resources for staff development, greater emphasis on automation and scalability, and the expansion of its management team.

Endeavor was proud to announce the appointment of two new members of the executive management team during 2010 - Keith Berger, Senior Vice President of Operations, and Chris Lewis, Vice President of Finance. Keith, a Master Black Belt in Six Sigma, oversees Endeavor's Operations departments - including Service Provisioning, Service Delivery, Project Management, Logistics, and Quality Assurance - and has been instrumental in enhancing company processes to ensure the highest level of quality is provided to customers while also making certain the Endeavor operations team has the tools and training necessary to optimize efficiency. Chris - whose background is steeped in financial management and reporting, as well as accounting software integration management - has provided expertise needed to further enhance integration of accounting functions within the Endeavor Service Portal (ESP).

As mentioned, the management team wasn't the only part of the Endeavor team that grew in numbers during 2010. The overall company head count in Atlanta increased by 44% by the end of the year. Endeavor's Service Provisioning team, responsible for coordinating field dispatches with customers and technicians, grew by 84%, with its counterpart Service Delivery, who handles the QA of each dispatch once technicians arrive onsite, increasing its count by 45%. Likewise, the company's Field Resource Management department, responsible for bringing on new technician talent and managing the existing field force, grew by 75%. Additionally, there has been significant growth within Endeavor's Software Development Team, which increased by 50%, and the administration/accounting organization, which saw a 20% increase in capacity. Finally, the Logistics team, responsible for managing various 3PL duties which Endeavor takes on for its customers including the warehousing, configuration, and shipping of CPE, tripled in size due to an increasing demand for this service in multiple large scale installation deployments.

Endeavor grew so much during 2010 that additional space was needed in its Atlanta-based TAC (Technical Access Center) to house the expanding team. The layout of Endeavor's warehouse, the hub for its Logistics operations which configures and ships out hundreds of routers and other CPE daily, was reconfigured in order to provide supplementary office space needed to match the rapidly growing headcount. Likewise the shipping center, which includes the CPE staging and configuration area, was relocated and drastically retooled to increase the efficiency of Endeavor's logistics operations.

In short, 2010 marked a banner year for Endeavor. We learned some valuable, sometimes difficult, lessons during the year but set company records and saw unprecedented levels of growth. It would not have been possible without the contributions of our customers and the hard work of our staff and Field Engineers. A lot of exciting things are in store for 2011 as we are looking forward to upgrading the level of seniority of our staff, continuing to expand the customer base, and providing customers with an ever-evolving portfolio of top notch services unmatched in the industry. Be sure to catch Part 2 of this feature in the February edition of Endeavoring, which looks to the year ahead.
