For any new customer project tackled by Endeavor one of the first and perhaps most critical elements involves establishing a well-defined, comprehensive scope of work. Not only does this scope of work provide step-by-step instructions for our onsite Field Engineers, but it also serves as a checklist for the Service Delivery team to review with the FE to ensure customer expectations are met with utmost satisfaction after each and every dispatch.
The scope of work does not just appear from thin air. Rather, it is developed over time between our customers and Endeavor's Sales Engineering team. In addition to the scope of work, another key role for Sales Engineering is to build an economy of scale. This enables the implementation of high volume customer rollouts according to our customers' plans, while maximizing efficiency and cost effectiveness.
Mike Hudlow Director of Sales Engineering
By working closely with each customer to plan and define the scope of the onsite dispatches and overall project, the Sales Engineering team is a key interface between customers and Endeavor's operations group. In assembling customers' goals and guidelines on different projects, the Sales Engineering group in turn passes on the scheduling requirements (i.e. FE skill-set requirements, required arrival times, etc.) to the Service Provisioning team and likewise develops a series of log-off questions utilized by Service Delivery when logging each FE offsite to verify compliance with customer quality assurance standards.
"I really enjoy the dynamic nature of this position," states Mike Hudlow, Director of Sales Engineering. "Due to the continually changing evolution of the telecom industry and diversity of Endeavor's customer base, I am able to stay on top of the latest technologies and overall industry trends. But regardless of whatever changes there are in technology, customers are still going to need someone onsite to install it and that's where we come in."
While Mike has been in the telecom industry for 14 years, it was not a field he necessarily envisioned for his future after he graduated from University of Georgia with a degree in English literature. Nearly choosing a path into academia by entering grad school, he instead decided to take a job doing technical writing. From there, he went on to various other positions in the field such as the installation of equipment in Central Offices and serving as an Activation Engineer. These past experiences have all contributed to his encyclopedic knowledge-base, which, combined with his charismatic nature, makes him the perfect fit to head Endeavor's Sales Engineering department.
But it's not all router configs and wiring schematics for Mike. In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his wife and children. He is also very passionate about music, playing both the guitar and the mandolin. At some point he hopes to resume teaching guitar, which is another activity he has previously enjoyed.
As Endeavor continues to grow and its customer base becomes more diverse, the Sales Engineering team will play a vital role in delivering scalable, efficient service delivery solutions to all Endeavor customers for a wide variety of technologies across different service types. Whether it involves configuring, kitting, and shipping out networking equipment as a 3rd party logistics offering or implementing a six-thousand site rollout installing wireless access points and security cameras at a nationwide fast food chain, each Endeavor project filters through the Sales Engineering team. And with the expertise of Mike Hudlow at the helm, Endeavor's reputation as the Telecom Truck Roll Company of Choice will continue to thrive.
